Wetland isotope modeling to understand carbon isotopic signatures of methane emitted from wetlands.

Advisor: Dr. Qianlai Zhuang and Dr. Lisa Welp

Understanding importance of High Affinity Methanotroph (HAM) in arctic methane budget by simulating methane fluxes and atmospheric concentrations using TEM-XHAM and GEOS-Chem, and evaluating simulations using in-situ, aircraft and satellite data. NASA Earth Space and Science Fellowship (NESSF) awarded for three  years.

Exploring seasonal changes of carbon isotope (d13C) leaf signals to understand species-specific fractionation processes that could affect tree ring signals in Morgan Monroe State Forest, IN using Elemental Analyzer Isotope Ratio Mass Spectrometry.

Developing eXplicit High Affinity Methanotroph model (XHAM) of Arctic soils to elucidate the importance of HAM. The scalable model was constrained by microcosm experiment and tested against laboratory and field measurements.

Conducting Empirical Orthogonal Function analysis to study how El Nino-Southern Oscillation and Tropical North Atlantic affect vegetation activity in the Amazon. NASA MODIS data was utilized.
